The Different Types of Energy

Energy is derived from different types of energy. They are converted into secondary forms, such as fuels and electricity. They are then transported through various channels to supply the energy that powers our lives, industries, homes and automobiles. Energy sources are categorized as renewable and non-renewable.

Renewable (or clean energy) is energy that is produced from natural resources that are continuously replenished. Examples include solar, wind and geothermal. Fossil Fuels (coal oil and natural gas) are not renewable, because they form much more slowly than we do.

Solar energy can be harnessed by a single rooftop or in huge solar power plants. It can also be transformed into photovoltaic solar energy which generates electricity directly. Water can be used to produce hydropower or for energy from tides and waves. Geothermal energy is generated from hot water reservoirs underground. Bioenergy can be obtained from organic sources, such as woody crops, animal dung, and human waste.

In addition to being environmentally friendly In addition, renewable energy tends to be cheaper than fossil fuels. However, the challenge is that renewable energy requires huge infrastructure to harvest and transport energy, and can lead to difficult trade-offs for environmental, social and economic reasons. The development of these technologies continues to increase and they are advancing against the more conventional fuels. In the future renewable energy may be more cost-effective than coal and oil.
